After a year of saving money to travel to Vietnam and planning to film this documentary, it's finally here!!! Ticket To School is a short-documentary that covers the stories of children and adults who sell lottery tickets, since they didn't have the opportunity to attend school. It's an endless cycle that needs more awareness. I'm so glad to have finally launched Voices For Impact's first project, and I'm so excited for what's to come! I've never filmed anything before, so it was a rough process getting used to the camera initially. Videos are a great and effective way to spread awareness, so I'm glad that I pursued the idea. Huge shoutout to Emily McClanahan for helping me edit Ticket To School!
During my time in Vietnam, I volunteered at Thanh Tam School. Thanh Tam School serves students with disabilities through educational, therapeutic, wellness, and recreational programs to empower the children. These children suffer hearing impairment, cerebral motor impairment, autism, or effects from Agent Orange. I asked the teacher if the students' families have a difficult time paying for school, and she told me that Thanh Tam works closely with Catholic churches in Vietnam to help assist families. Thanh Tam School makes no distinction on sex, religion, or ethnic origin in accepting applications.
I had an amazing time volunteering and getting to know these students. I was inspired by their enthusiasm to learn and ways of making the most out of any situation. If you would like to get involved or contribute to Thanh Tam School, please visit: thanhtamschool.com
